Fitness League Classes

 

Appeals to the more mature participant and consists of low impact movement to music.

The aim of the sessions is to mobilise joints and strengthen muscles.

 

Each class is made up of a warm up, posture work, a short floor section, a dance section and a cool down, and is therefore varied and works the whole body.

 Taunton Deane Morris Men

 

We are a male dance side founded by a handful of enthusiasts in 1973 that practice on Tuesday nights (20:00-22:00) throughout the winter and spring at Wilton Hall by St Georges Church at TA1 3JT.  We learn two dance traditions and develop our own Taunton tradition and any men that are interested in learning more can come and visit us or meet us afterwards in The Vivary Arms at TA1 3JR.

 

From Easter Monday until August  we dance in the villages of Somerset and east Devon and perform at fetes, street fairs, wassails, weddings and folk weekends. The dances are usually for 6 and occasionally 8 men with music from melodeons, pipe and tabor or occasionally bagpipes. We also dance on a number of occasions during Christmas in the style of a Border Morris team.

 

We are entirely self-funded with a modest club subscription and income from paid bookings and collections when we dance out. Over the years we have given approximately £10,000 to various charities and continue a Somerset tradition of dance dating back to 1580.

Zumba Gold is a low impact exercise suitable for beginners, over 50's or those new to exercise. Dance yourself fit to latin rhythms.

Pound Fit

 

If you've dreamed of channelling your inner rock star into a fitness plan, it's time to POUND. Created by two female drummers, the POUND workout fuses cardio interval training with drumming to provide a challenging, heart-pumping workout.

Stretch and Strengthen

This class is suitable for all ages and abilities as it is very low impact and each exercise can be taken at one’s own level and pace.  Specially designed movements  and sequences will enhance mobility, flexibility and core strength, working all the joints plus the major and accessory muscle groups throughout the body.

Dance Divas

The class includes a thorough warm up, dance skills and/or a routine to learn, perform and enjoy, followed by a cool down and stretch. The routines this half term have included authentic choreography from "Chicago", a jive, a street dance routine and our Christmas number was Santa Baby (with chairs !) Come and join us if you are up for some bump and grind as a foil to the daily grind! No dance experience necessary.
